Upgradation/Modernisation of M.A.Chidambaram Stadium:
In the Annual Report for the financial year of March 2010, the completion of Phase I of the Stadium Project upgradation/modernization of Stands, A, B C Stands was reported.
Originally Phase II of modernization was planned for three stands, that is, D, E and F. Due to the precarious structural condition of the old E,F, G & H Stands, and on the advice of Structural Consultants, the work of demolition and modernization of these stands was also taken up. Six Stands were planned for reconstruction, viz., D, E, F, G, H and I. Besides this the external walk-way from A Stand to I Stand,
installation of floodlights to the practice ground, the re-location of two towers of the floodlight system in alignment with the new Stands, provision of an efficient storm water drainage system were also taken up and completed in time prior to the commencement of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
Important facilities, such as, the Media Center, TV Broadcasting Control Room, TV Camera Platforms, Club Secretaries A.C.Box, TNCA Office, TNCA Academy, TNCA President Office and Box, TNCA Chambers and TNCA Club are located in these stands.
The Office-bearers of Madras Cricket Club extended their unstinted cooperation in the execution of the contruction activities, especially relating to Stand I and relocation of floodlight mast in their premises.
For the India-New Zealand Match held in December, 2010, three stands, Media Center, TV Broadcasting center and other basic facilities for the conduct of the match were in place.
The appreciation received for upgradation/ modernization of the three stands viz., A, B & C , was a great encouragement not only to the TNCA but also for the agencies involved in the project.
Mr. Eugene Van Vuuren, Architect – Stadium Construction Head of the ICC, Recce Team who inspected all the venues of ICC CWC 2011, after venue inspection and presentation of the TNCA Infrastructure Team expressed “only this venue (Chepauk) has furnished a comprehensive data on the work done and the time schedule for its completion in the whole subcontinent. I am confident that the Stadium will be complete and readyto stage the matches”.
The Media Center came in for special praise. Our Media Manager, in appreciation, was invited to witness the World Cup Finals at Mumbai by the ICC.
The Chairman and Members of the Infrastructure Committee wish to thank the professionals like Mr. A.Venkat and his team, Mr N.S.Shankar and his colleagues in the PMC, Mr V.Ganesan and his technical and execution staff, Mr.Troy,Mr. Fread, Mr Srinivasan of the Roof erection group and all the other Agencies engaged in fast track project work. They were available at the project site 24x7.
The Club Secretaries, Officials handling the Media, TV Broadcasting, Gate and Stand control for their valuable input and cooperation, Staff Members, Office-bearers, for their guidance and support, and especially our President for his foresight in (1) insisting that the workers or vehicles of the construction project do not enter into the playing area (2) taking up the modernization in stages and (3) agreeing to hold the India-New Zealand ODI Match (which speeded up the civil contractors clearing the practice ground). We also had his whole hearted encouragement and support.
The major Agencies involved in the New Stadium Project are as follows:
1. Civil Structure – M/s:Ganesan Builders Ltd.
2. Roof was designed by Taiyo Mambrane, Australia. The steel structure was supplied by Geodesic, India. The steel cable was from China and the PTFE roof fabric was imported from Japan. Taiyo Mambrane was responsible for erection of the roof in coordination with Geodesic.
3. Chairs – Supplied by Camatic, Australia and installed by Pen Workers, Mumbai.
4. Electrical installation carried out by K.K.Singh Electrical.
5. Plumbing and installation of Fire Fighting System by R.D.Associates.
Apart from the above 38 agencies and consultants were involved in the successful completion of Phase II.
The Final stage - Phase III of modernization of the Stadium project is being planned and is expected commence in the month of July, 2011.
TNCA-MCC Coordination Committee
The TNCA-MCC Coordination Committee under the Chairmanship of Mr P.S.Raman (Vice-President, TNCA) had held several rounds of talks with the Office-bearers of MCC. The Addendum to MOU dated 17-2-1999 and award dated 28-11.2006 was successfully concluded and the Addendum executed by the Presidents and Hon Secretaries of both the bodies.
ICC Cricket World Cup 2011
It is an unique honour for the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association to host the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 Matches at Chennai. The 10th edition of the Tournament was played during the months of February-March, 2011 in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. 6 matches (2 practice matches and 4 World Cup Matches were played at M.A.Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai.

One-day International Match played between India and New Zealand
The 5th One-day International Match between India and New Zealand was played on 10th December, 2010 at M.A.Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. India won the match convincingly by 8 wickets.
Indian Team’s Camp at Chennai
The Indian Team had practice sessions on 11th and 12th June, 2010 at Chennai on their way to Colombo to participate in the Asia Cup.
BCCI’s Specialist Academy – Spin Bowling & Wicket Keeping at Chennai
The BCCI Specialist Academy during the year 2010-2011, conducted training programmes in batches for aspiring spinners and wicket-keepers at Chennai. Nearly 50 trainees from various State Associations took part in the coaching sessions.
R.Venkatesh (Administrative Manager), T.Karunamurthy (Asst. Manager) made all arrangements for the stay and the comforts of the trainees. L.Sivaramakrishnan, D.Vasu (Spinner Coaches) and Samir Dighe (wicket-keeping) gave training to the players.
DLF-IPL IV Twenty20 Tournament
The Fourth edition of DLF-IPL Twenty20 Tournament was held in Chennai, in which the Chennai Super Kings played their seven home matches from 8th April to 18th May, 2011.
A colourful inaugural ceremony was held on 8th April, 2011 in which the Captains of all participating teams were present at M.A.Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
The Semi-final and Final matches are scheduled to be held at Chennai on 27th and 28th May, 2011.
BCCI-Airtel Raj Singh Dungarpur Corporate Trophy Tournament at Chennai
Three Group B matches in the second edition of BCCI-Airtel Raj Singh Dungarpur Corporate Trophy Tournament was held at Chennai from 1st to 3rd September, 2010.. IOC qualified to play in the Semi-finals since it had the better net run rate.
The Senior Division League matches (League Phase) commenced on 7th July, 2010 and concluded on 28th March, 2011.
The knock-out matches are kept on hold because of DLF IPL season IV matches.These will be held in the month of June 2011.
The lower division matches commenced on 10th July, 2010 and all the matches including those for promotion and relegation were completed on 22-05-2011.
BCCI Umpires Examination
Out of the Fourteen Umpires who had attend the Umpires Level-I Refresher course conducted by the BCCI between June and August 2010, at Nagpur, only the following Umpires were placed in the grade ‘A’ and have been shortlisted to appear for the Level-2 Examination.

The Level-2 preparatory courses for the above Umpires were held at Nagpur, from 11th to 14th January 2011. The practical and Theory Examination were held on 5th April 2011 at Nagpur.
Out of the five Candidates, M.G. Saidarshan Kumar, M. Kuppuraj and G.S. Anantharama Krishnan were declared as passed and have to appear for Viva-Voce for which the dates have not yet been announced.
TNCA Panel (City) Umpires Meeting:
A meeting of all TNCA Panel Umpires (City) was held on 5th July 2010 to discuss the League Rules governing the TNCA League Championship.

A meeting of all TNCA Panel Umpires (Districts) was held on 3rd July 2010 at Thoothukudi to discuss the Districts Tournament Rules.
Anti Doping Education Programme
Dr Vece Paes, Anti Doping Consultant of the BCCI conducted an Educational Programme at Mumbai on 13th December, 2010. R.Venkatesh (Coach), P.K.Naveen Babu (Physio) and S.Vetri Selvan (Physio) from the TNCA were deputed to attend the programme. Dr. Vece Paes also conducted an Anti Doping Education Programme for Ranji and Under-22 cricketers including support staff at Chennai on 3.2.2011.
A Meeting of all TNCA Scorers was held on 3rd July 2010 at MAC Stadium, Chennai . Scoring kits were distributed to the scorers. A District Scorer’s Seminar was held on 15th August, 2010 at Salem.
BCCI’s Video Analyst Seminar:
N.Karthikeyan and Vinnarasan attended the Seminar for Match Analysis Software for Freshers held at Napur from 26th to 29th April, 2011 Prabhakar Sharma and A.K.Satish attended the seminar for Match Analysis Software for Freshers held at Nagpur from 3rd to 6th May, 2011.
BCCI Panel Scorers Refresher Course:
C.Madhusudan, T.Chennakesavalu and D.Ravichandran attended the Refresher Course for BCCI Panel Scorers (On line scorers) held in August at Nagpur.
TNCA Website and Statistical Record of Players:
M/s:Coromandel Infotech Ltd has been retained to render service to the Website for the TNCA and make available all statistical records of players participating in the League Championship. During the season the performances of players in the lower division league matches were highlighted in the website.
Digitizing the Records of the TNCA:
The work of M/s:Precision Infomatic, Chennai for digitizing the records of the TNCA is in progress.. The various records of the TNCA have been scanned and uploaded to the Server. The work relating to Indexing and search options are in progress.
Various Courses Conducted by the National Cricket Academy
Level A Coaches Course:
S.Suresh, S.Sharath and D.Dhandapani were nominated to attend the course held from 21st to 26th June, 2010 at Hyderabad. The first two have been declared successful in the examination held after the conclusion of the course. D.Dhandapani has to reappear in the examination after some time.
D. Dhandapani could not attend the re-examination for Level-A Coaches course on 29th and 30th November 2010 at Bangalore, since he was out of Country.
Level B Coaches Course:
M.Sanjay and S.Sathish Kumar have come out successfully in the Level B Coaches Internship programme conducted by NCA.
Shri A. Kumarasamy has been assigned to complete the project work by the NCA as a pre requisite for attending the Level –B course certificate by June 2011.
Shri M. Sanjay has been nominated to attend the Level –B Internship programme at the NCA Bangalore from 21st April to 31st May 2011.
Shri A. Kumarasamy had obtained ‘C’ grade in the re-examination for Level –B Coaches course held at Kanpur from October 4th to October 7th 2010.
Shri N. Raghavendran has not qualified in the Internship programme for Level-B Coaches held from 24th to 30th September at Bangalore.
J. Narayanan and M. Sanjay have been nominated to attend the Level-B Refresher Course at Guwahati from 18th to 21st march 2011. Both were declared as passed.
Level C Coaches Course:
Shri R. Venkatesh has to appear for the re-examination for Level- C Coaches course. The assessment and Evaluation for this course will be held in Sepetember 2011.
A. Murugan has been detailed to attend an Internship programme of Trainers at the NCA Bangalore from 1st to 15th August 2010.
D.J. Gokulakrishnan has been appointed as the Coach for U-16 National camp at Bangalore from 21st April to 31st May 2011.
P.R. Anand Kumar has been detailed to attend an Internship programme of Physio from 12th to 31st May 2011 at Bangalore.
B.Indrajith, A.Aswin Crist and K.Bharath Shankar have been selected in the NCA Review Camp for Under-16 category and B.Aparajith in the Under-19 category held at Bangalore in September, 2010.
B. Aparajith has been selected for the NCA U-19 National camp to be conducted from 20th June to 30th July at Bangalore.
M. Shahrukh Khan has been selected for the NCA U-16 National camp to be conducted from 21st April to 31st May 2011.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy:
In the All India Knock-out Tournament for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Twenty20 matches held at Hyderabad Tamil Nadu lost to Bengal in the Semi-finals.
Tamil Nadu retained the Twenty20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (South Zone Phase) held at Hyderabad. It won all the matches convincingly.
K.S.Subbiah Pillai Trophy
Tamil Nadu retained the K.S.Subbiah Pillai Trophy – South Zone Inter State Limited Over Tournament held at Perinthalamanna, Kerala.
All India Coromandel King Moin-Ud-Dowlah Gold Cup Invitation Tournament:
The Tamil Nadu State Under-22 Team was sent to participate in the Tournament. It failed to qualify for the Knock-out stage.
Tamilnadu Under 25:
Tamil Nadu finished as the 4th place in the Table of Points of P.S.Ram Mohan Rao Trophy (Under-25) held at Chennai in January, 2011.
Tamilnadu Under 22:
After qualifying as the winner in the Elite Group ‘A’ Tamil Nadu lost to Mumbai in the Quarter-final on first innings deficit at Dahanu, Mumbai.
Tamilnadu Under 19
Tamil Nadu did not qualify from the Elite Group ‘B’ for the All India Knock-out Tournament for Cooch Behar Trophy. Tamil Nadu qualified from the South Zone (as winner) for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy All India Knock-out One-day Tournament. Tamil Nadu prevailed over Rajasthan in the Quarter-finals and lost to Maharashtra in the Semi-finals at Delhi.
Tamil Nadu Under-16:
Tamil Nadu did not qualify for the knock-out stage of the competition and secured only the fourth place in the points table.
Tamil Nadu Under-14:
Tamil Nadu secured the third place in the recently concluded KSCA Inter-State South Zone Under-14 Tournament held at Bangalore. This year the tournament was played on two day format with innings restricted to 100 over a side.

V.Yomahesh was selected for the India Blue Team, Dinesh Karthick was selected for the Indian Red Team, S.Badrinath, S.Snirudha, R.Ashwin were selected for the India Green Team to participate in the N.K.P.Salve Challengers Cup held at Indore.
S.Badrinath as Captain, M.Vijay, Abhinav Mukund and Dinesh Karthik were selected for South Zone Team in the Duleep Trophy played in January, 2011 at Hyderabad.
S.Badrinath, M.Vijay, S.Anirudha, Abhinav Mukund and Dinesh Karthik have been selected to represent the South Zone Team to participate in the D.B.Deodhar Trophy played at Jaipur.
B.Indrajith, K.Bharath Shankar, B.Aparajith and Aswin Crist have been selected to represent the South Zone Under-19 team for the Inter Zonal Tournament held in January-February, 2011 at Mumbai.
Aswin Crist has been selected as a full time Trainee of the MRF pace Foundation.
The general level in the performance of our State teams during 2010 – 2011 is a pointer to the effective and efficient Coaching programme followed at our Academy. The team of Coaches and Support Staff deserve our appreciation for the good work. Special thanks to our President Shri. N.
